RV camping season is right around the corner! Hundreds of families across Ontario are gearing up for their next big adventure. But what steps need to be taken to ensure your trip goes smoothly? We’re glad you asked.

Here at Travel-Mor Trailers, we recognize the importance of proper RV maintenance, so we have put together a simple RV checklist to help you provide the proper maintenance to your RV so your travel plans for this summer are everything you dreamed they would be.

RV Road Trip Steps To Success

From proper tire selection to a mechanical inspection, there are many things to consider when getting your RV ready for the upcoming camping season. Feel free to browse through our RV checklist of top suggestions for your RV maintenance, as well as a few travel essentials that will make your trip that much easier!

1. RV Roof

Over time, UV rays and rainwater will damage the sealant used on your RV’s roofing. It is important to check the integrity of your RV’s roofing sealant before embarking on a major road trip. If your roof is walkable, we recommend walking the length of the room and checking the sealant up close and personal to ensure it is properly sealed!

Alternatively, if your roof isn’t walkable, climb up on a ladder and make sure to get a good view of the sealant to make sure it is secure. If you are afraid of heights, feel free to contact one of our professionals today to inspect your roofing sealant!

2. Tires

The major difference between regular vehicle tires and RV tires is the amount of weight. An RV can weigh anywhere from 10 000-30 000 pounds, which is SIGNIFICANTLY more than a regular car or truck. It is important to select the proper tires for your motor home as well!

There are two classes of RV tires: LT (Light Truck) and ST (Special Trailer).

RV Checklist tip - check your RV tire pressure

Light Truck tires (LT) are designed for vehicles that weigh much more than a regular vehicle, like an RV. These types of tires are made for Class A, B and C motorhomes. As your RV gets heavier, it will need stronger tires, which tend to be more expensive.

On the other hand, Special Trailer tires (ST), are made specifically for handling the extra weight of a travel trailer or fifth wheel. This type of tire has a stronger sidewall and are known to have massive weight limits.

Make sure you are selecting the proper RV tire for you and begin the road trip you have always dreamed of! While you’re thinking about your tires, remember to keep an eye out for your tire pressure before you head out.

3. Mechanical Inspection

Having a mechanic inspect your RV once a season is wise, however, it is also wise to hire an inspector to investigate an RV before you purchase it to ensure you get a fair and proper price for the vehicle, whether it is new or used to protect yourself from overinflated pricing.

Ensure your RV is road trip ready with an inspection from one of our in-house mechanics who are happy to help you gain peace of mind that your RV is ready for the adventure of a lifetime.

4. Road Trip Essentials

When embarking on an RV road trip there are essential items we see people overlook time and time again. We have included three suggestions for items to bring below so you start your journey off on the right foot!

person starting their portable generator

  • Wheel Blocks – wheel blocks are important to stabilize your RV when you are parked and avoid excess RV movement when walking around the interior
  • Portable Generator – Having a portable generator is crucial to RV travel, even if you plan on spending your time in RV parks with running electricity! You never know when an emergency will occur, or even a power outage.
  • Emergency Road Kit – Emergencies can happen when you least expect them, which is why it is important to stay prepared for any scenario! Purchasing an emergency roadside kit is a must. Including number cables, a reflective vest, a whistle, and many other items it will help you navigate your emergency situation with ease.

With these essentials packed, your journey will be a breeze! Enjoy all the beautiful locales Ontario has to offer with a properly equipped RV.

Thank you for sharing this RV roof maintenance checklist. These are very important hints before hitting the road. This is a great and helpful post for new RV owners. When I was new to my RV world, then I used to hire a professional inspector for this task, but this is a very costly process. Later, I learned things and now I do it by myself. Now, before hitting the road, I coat a roof with “RV Roof Magic” as it makes my RV roof waterproof, airtight, and leakage free with giving an aesthetically pleasing look for a fraction of the cost due to its reflective white color.
