- Should I leave my RV or trailer water pump on all the time?
- It’s perfectly okay to leave your water pump running all the time while it’s hooked up to a water source. Water pumps are pressure activated and only run while water is being used.
- How long can water sit in my RV?
- The simplest answer to this question is two weeks if you’re not using and refilling the water tank. When water sits in a tank for an extended period of time, it allows mold and bacteria to grow within the tank, making the water unsafe to drink. We recommend draining and cleaning the water tank when it’s not going to be used for an extended period of time.
- Are RV & trailer water filters reusable?
- Most water filters for RVs & trailers are made to be cleaned and reused multiple times. Check the specifications of your water filter to find out when you should replace it. Regardless of the number of times a filter can be reused, it is recommended to replace the water filter once per year.
- How do I sanitize my water tank?
- Cleaning and sanitizing your RV water system can be done in 5 steps:
- Turn off your water heater and drain your water system.
- Calculate the amount of bleach (1 oz. per eight gallons of water) you need and add it to the water tank.
- Fill the water tank with water and pump it through your system.
- Let the bleached water sit in the system for 12 hours.
- Drain the tank and flush the system.

- Since your water system is meant to provide you with clean drinking water, it’s important to make sure it’s kept as clean as possible. At the bare minimum, an RV water system should be cleaned and sanitized every spring after taking the RV out of storage, as well as any time you notice stale water or a foul odour.
