Ottawa RV owners & recreational enthusiasts – it’s that time of year again!

That magical time when winter inevitably gives way to spring, when the snow and ice melt to reveal bare pavement beneath.

If you own a trailer or RV in Ottawa, you know what that means.

It’s time to hit the open road in your RV or trailer!

Let’s take a look at some great spring and summer road trips you can take in an RV from Ottawa – and a few tips on how to make the most of those trips.

Springtime RV Tips & Tricks from Ottawa’s RV Pros

De-winterizing is vital, especially after those Ottawa winters and most definitely if your Ottawa RV has been in storage over the winter.

We have a whole article on Ottawa RV de-winterizing tips, which you can check out here.

TLDR – you’ll want to make sure all your systems are in good, working order. That includes:

  • Batteries
  • Water systems
  • Safety components
  • Tires & Brakes
  • Powertrain & Generator
  • Seams, Seals & Gaskets

… and more. To avoid unpleasant surprised down the road, don’t skimp out on the investment – of time or money – to make sure these are taken care of before you hit the road in your RV.

If you’re not sure about any of these, hit us up! We’re always happy to talk about RVs. And if you need any RV service, we’re here to help.

Short Trips in an RV from Ottawa

Within a couple hours’ drive you’ve got lots to choose from along the St. Lawrence River.

From Montreal to the east, along both Canadian and American sides of the St. Lawrence, down to the Thousand Islands and Kingston to the west, there’s much to enjoy.

Now if you’re traveling in an RV or trailer to these parts in April or May, you’ll want to be prepared for any kind of weather. Snow isn’t unheard of in Ottawa & Eastern Ontario in May, and is more or less expected to fall at some point in April.

That’s why you’ll want to not only ensure that your trailer or RV is in tip-top shape, but that you’ve brought ample layers of clothing. Plan on cool nights, especially, great for sleeping in the RV but more comfortable if you’ve got warmer wardrobe.

Depending on how early or well into the Ontario RV season you’re heading out, some RV sites and lots will fill up quickly.

That’s why it’s a good idea to do the planning now and make reservations before leaving Ottawa in your RV or trailer.

Longer Trips in an RV from Ottawa

A few questions to ask during your RV road trip planning are:

  • Where would you like to go?
  • How much time do you have?
  • What would you like to see?
  • How do you like to experience places?

The provinces of Ontario and Quebec have a whole host of RV destinations, from exquisite and pristine nature to vibrant cities.

Your Ontario options start with the gem of Algonquin Provincial Park, a great RV destination tro be sure – but book well ahead for an RV lot, especially during peak periods.

Other Ontario favourites include Peterborough & the Kawarthas; Belleville and Prince Edward County; the Niagara region (including world-famous Niagara Falls as well as the nearby wine country; and options further afield in this great, big province of Ontario that we’re proud to call home.

And for those with up-to-date passports and who meet all the requirements, you’ve got plenty more RV destinations in the United States. Lake Placid, Lake George and the beautiful Adirondacks are just across the border in New York State. The New England states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine are all well within RV driving distance and offer great getaways.

Like we said, the possibilities for an RV trip from Ottawa are nearly endless (as far as the road will take you!).
